Kanienke’ha:ka (Mohawk) artist Talena offers this unique beaded earring workshop to beginners who are exploring the traditional art of beadwork. Through beadwork and other traditional forms of Indigenous arts, Talena has found a profound connection to her spirit and a type of healing that she has not been able to find elsewhere. Description

Talena Atfield, beaded earring workshop, indigenous women's arts conference, pass the feather. aboriginal arts Collective of canadaTalena Atfield is Haudenosaunee, Kanienke’ha:ka (Mohawk).  She descended from Six Nations, but grew up urban in London Ontario disconnected from the land and culture.

Craving these connections, she studied Indigenous history in a university setting and was fortunate to have many amazing teachers, who helped her along in her journey.

When she began physically studying creation through art and craft, her journey began. Talena finds this kind of creation to be not only meditative and calming, but a vehicle for expressing the language of her heart and soul; a language that she believes comes to us in images and feelings rather than words. In this, Talena has found a profound connection to her spirit and a type of healing that she has not been able to find elsewhere. This is where her inspiration comes from. She makes ribbon skirts, moccasins, bead work, and earrings, and is always eager to learn new ways of creating.
